As we learn more about COVID-19, policies surrounding crowd size and social distancing continue to change. These policies also impact cemeteries. We are working on gathering this information for you and will continue to add to and update it as we learn more. Please note that these policies will be strictly enforced in the interest of public health and safety.
Arlington Cemetery (Kearny)
Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery (State of New Jersey)
Also known as Arneytown, this Veterans Cemetery is run by the Department of Veterans Affairs of New Jersey and is not a part of the National Cemetery Association (see below).
The Cemetery will resume Committal Services and Military Funeral Honors prior to the burial starting on Wednesday June 17, 2020. The guidance for families who were unable to hold a committal service due to the COVID-19 pandemic will be provided at a later date. The Chapel and the Administration Building will remain closed to walk-in visitors.
Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge Memorial Gardens – Cloverleaf Memorial Park – Mt. Lebanon Cemetery/Forest Lawn
The family must wait in their cars until the grave or crypt is ready, then proceed to grave or crypt for final services and leave. There will be no shovels available for family filling in of the grave, Chapel is not available and restrooms are locked.
Catholic Cemeteries (Archdiocese of Newark)
Updated directives regarding Catholic Cemeteries have been approved by Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R., for the Archdiocese of Newark.
Starting Monday, June 1st, summer hours will begin and the cemetery gates will be open for visitation everyday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., except Wednesdays until 7:00 p.m., and mausoleums will be open 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays until September 15th.
All persons entering archdiocesan cemetery and mausoleum premises must wear a face mask and practice social distancing as per the state’s mandate. Signs will be posted in cemeteries.
East Ridgelawn Cemetery & Crematory (Clifton)
Fairmount Cemetery & Crematory (Newark)
Somerset Hills Memorial Park (Basking Ridge)
Both cemeteries are under common management and both will allow family to be at the burial outside & a max of 5 to witness interments in the Mausoleum. Face coverings and social distance required.
Glendale Cemetery (Bloomfield, NJ)
Cemetery and mausoleum visitation will be permitted weekdays, Monday through Saturday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
All persons entering Glendale Cemetery and mausoleum premises must wear a facemask and practice social distancing as per state mandate.
Graceland Memorial Park (Kenilworth)
Graceland will allow up to the State mandates for groups outdoors. Face coverings & social distances required. The casket & graveside must be set up prior to family getting out of their cars and the casket will not be lowered until the family leaves.
Greensprings Natural Cemetery Preserve (Newfield, NY)
Family and/or friends may observe the burial as witnesses and preferably at least two can serve as pallbearers. All buildings will be closed to the public except the outhouse which will be sanitized pre- and post-burials. Click on cemetery name above to link directly to their Covid page.
Hanover Cemetery, East Hanover
Hanover Cemetery will allow up to 25 immediate family members. The casket & graveside must be set up prior to family getting out of their cars and the casket will not be lowered until the family leaves. Face coverings & social distance required.
Hollywood Memorial Park & Hollywood Cemetery (Union)
Hollywood Memorial Park & Hollywood Cemetery is accepting burials and will allow a group of 100 (including the Funeral Director and clergy) to witness. Up to 25 are allowed to witness entombments inside. Face coverings & proper distances are required
Immaculate Conception Cemetery (Upper Montclair)
Immaculate will be following the same rules as the Archdiocese of Newark Catholic Cemeteries.
Cemetery or mausoleum space selection and purchase will continue to be available by appointment only.
Mt. Hebron Cemetery (Upper Montclair)
Mt. Hebron Cemetery will accept a burial or entombment and is following the guidelines of the State. Face coverings / social spacing required.

Prospect Hill (Caldwell, NJ)
The Prospect Hill Cemetery in Caldwell, NJ is accepting burials and will allow family members to witness the burial as allowed by law.
Restland Memorial Park (East Hanover, NJ)
Restland Memorial Park in East Hanover, NJ is accepting burials and will allow a group of 100 (including the Funeral Director and clergy) to witness.
Face coverings & proper distances are required
Rosedale Cemetery & Crematory (Montclair, NJ)
The Rosedale Cemetery & Crematory in Montclair, NJ is open for visiting of graves or crypts.
Rosedale & Rosehill Cemeteries & Crematory (Linden, NJ)
- The total number of allowable attendees at outdoor interments will be set at the current State Mandated number of allowable people gathering outdoors. This count includes all funeral home staff and clergy.
- For Mausoleum entombments, the maximum number of attendees will be set at the State mandated indoor gathering count.
- Face coverings must be worn at all times and safe social distancing practices observed.
- Only Cemetery personnel will handle and carry caskets – no family pallbearers will be permitted.
- When funeral processions are led out to their grave or crypt, ALL attendees are to remain in their cars while the casket is carried to the grave, crypt or chapel.
- For interments, caskets will be immediately lowered to ground level.
